GCC economist: Emirates Investment Authority to push UAE economy in different direction

Najib Abdullah Al Shamsi, director of studies and research, GCC General Secretariat, says in an interview with Emirates Business that, “Although the UAE economy relies on crude, setting up the Emirates Investment Authority should lead to an anticipated correction in the economy’s track through diversification.”

Gulf News reports that, “During a meeting [on Wednesday] chaired by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Cabinet approved the appointments of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, as Chairman of the [Emirates Investment Authority], and Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, as Deputy Chairman. Khadem Al Qubaisi, Saud Bel Alawi, Abdul Hamid Saeed, Hashim Al Dabl and Eisa Al Suwaidi have been appointed board members of the authority.”
